OUR TEAM

Tenaya Figueira

Hey everyone, Tenaya here! I’m the founder of Movement Co. and one of your friendly movement class instructors.

My love for movement began at age three when I was introduced to dance classes and it’s been a constant in my life ever since. I teach because I absolutely love it and it fills my cup to witness the progress made by my clients in class.

I fuse the best parts of many different modalities like barre, Pilates, yoga, and plyometrics, to create a fun, fierce, AND feel-good class for YOU. I love teaching different formats so that you can choose based on where you are at that day, and I try to create balance between cardio, strengthening, and stretch. Think of me as your big sister, here to encourage, support, and motivate you. So come on, what are you waiting for? Grab your mat and let’s move!

Miwa Sakamoto

Hey team, my name is Miwa. I have a serious fascination and love for both movement and energy. As a kid, this meant that I played almost every sport you can think of. I also practiced modern dance, ballet, yoga, and Pilates along the way. Through the years I watched many of my friends and teammates stop prioritizing movement and their overall health and wellness. But I couldn’t stop. Can’t stop, won’t stop, actually. I love tapping into my energy and feeling my muscles do what they’re meant to - move! When I move I can feel that energy expand and as a teacher it is my job and joy to share that in my classes. I really believe working out can be as fun as a dance party and with so much experience in various forms of movement to draw knowledge and inspiration from, I want my classes to always feel eclectic, fresh and challenging. I love teaching Pilates because it is so focused on slow, intentional work that the mind really has to be trained as well. I don’t talk about the muscle and mind connection casually as I really believe it is one of the most important components of health, and that it is accessible to everyone! My classes are here to keep movement in your life both physically, mentally and emotionally so that you can keep evolving and achieving. When I’m not teaching you’ll likely find me modeling (my other job), hiking, running at the beach, making food, playing board games or having philosophical conversations in the car with my friends.

Michelle Lazarus

Hey friends, Michelle here! My love for movement has taken many forms over the years but it’s always been my go to for getting out of my head and into my body. As a shy kid I dabbled in everything from competitive soccer to running cross country. I loved dance as well and leaned heavily into the performing arts for many years. I was introduced to somatic movement for the stage which began my appreciation for a slowed down sensation based approach. After moving to LA, I quickly realized that my emotional health was directly linked to the movement and exercise I had in my life and I needed something that was both intentional and challenging. My best friend Tenaya introduced me to barre and I never looked back! It became the foundation for what I would teach, filling my cup with thoughtful movement and total body benefits. We opened a light-filled studio together in 2012 and the community that formed will always be one of the things that inspires me most. Since then I’ve dug deep, evolved, pushed personal limits, and have become more resilient than ever. I teach balanced classes that fuse all the best parts of Barre, Pilates, HIIT, and Yoga while staying true to my foundation of feel first, then move. I will always teach to the many levels, injuries, and contraindications that exist - no two bodies are the same. I believe pregnancy is no reason to stop moving but instead, the single most important thing you can do. When I’m not cheering you on virtually or IRL, I’m making smoothies, manhattans, eating pate, and running the beach with my 3 kids, husband and dog. Never a dull moment in our home, and the single most important reason I move!

Abi

Hi! My name is Abi and I’m one of your movement class teachers. I’m from Newport Beach, California, and am happy to be living in Los Angeles. I grew up dancing and then eventually teaching dance in college. After that, I was looking for an exercise that was fun and incorporated music and proper body alignment, and I found barre. I have been teaching since 2015 and have taught in San Francisco, Madrid, and am now excited to be a part of the Thrive Project in LA! I love the creativity and strength the movement classes bring, and am excited to share that with you. I am also a first grade teacher in Culver City and enjoy exploring LA restaurants with my friends and family.
